The next day Legolas, Gandalf, the other elves, and the Ents began the tedious task of removing the hundreds of boulders that clogged the river. Not only where the boulders heavy, and almost impossible to move, but the Ents were so slow and disagreeable to the techniques the elves had created. Gandalf blasted a few of the lighter boulders and rocks away with some explosives and fireworks he had brought along. "Gandalf, we have been working at this for a day and we have barely made a scratch," Legolas growled in frustration. "At the rate we are going, we will never get this undammed." "Hope, my friend. I say we are doing pretty good. Better than a hobbit anyway," Gandalf said, sucking on his pipe and walking away. "A hobbit? What is a hobbit," Legolas asked himself, "What an old goon." "A goon I may be, Legolas, but a Goon with high hopes!" Gandalf yelled over his shoulder. Dumbfounded that Gandalf had heard him, Legolas walked over to the Ents. "Listen, all you have to do is tie the rope around that boulder. If you all pull together, maybe even with the help of the horses, I'm sure we can move it!" He tried to explain to the Ents, who were sitting down, not making any effort. He looked helplessly over at the other elves, who each had ropes in their hands and were pulling as hard as they could. One of the elves, Baranjolas, looked up at Legolas with a red and purple face. "Master, this is NOT working!" the elf said, planting hs feet into the ground and trying to pull harder. Legolas grabbed one of the ropes that was tied to the humungous rock. "Okay, lets all start pulling at the same time," Legolas instructed. He waited until all the elves where in place. "Okay.. now!" he said, gripping the rope even tighter and pulling it over her shoulder. The elves pulled with all their might. One lost his balance and fell forward. Gandalf laughed at the sad effort made by his collegues. "Barkmouth, perhaps you should at least try helping?" Gandalf said to one of the Ents. the Ent, who admired Gandalf and considered himself a friend to him, did as he was told. Towering about the elves the Ent began to tie a rope around the base. Once he was ready to pull he siad, "Alright you elvish creatures, pull!" The elves groaned and the Ent squeezed his eyes tight. the rock began to move, but slightly. "Come on Barkmouth!" another ent said, standing up. He walked over to the rock and grabbed ahold of Barkmouth's rope, standing behind him. He too began to pull, and the rock inched forward. Soon all the Ents were chipping in, pulling on their individual ropes. Gandalf worked on a smaller rock, setting explosives at its base. "Look out!" Legolas screamed, as the boulder began to roll. He dodged out of the way, grabbing another elf along with him. The other elves dropped their ropes and began to run. Slowly, the boulder began to fall forward; eventually it began to roll away from the river, down the slopes of the hill they were on, hitting numerous trees, and finally out of sight. Everyone stood silent for a moment, watching the boulder roll away. They all looked at the chunk missing from the dam, then at eachother. "Whoohoo!!" one of the elves screamed, They began to jump around and cheering excitedly. Legolas and Gandalf chuckled at the elves. "Alright, alright. That's only one of many we have to move. so, everyone start roping the next rock," Legolas took charge again. The elves groaned as the picked out a new rock to move. The Ents talked amongst themselves, smiling at their accomplishment. "Gandalf, maybe I'm being.. well, paranoid, but I feel as though there are more creatures around this area then the Ents and ourselves," Legolas whispered. "You are right, Legolas. Spies have been watching us since we got here," Gandal replied, acting as though it wasn't a big deal. "Spies?" Legolas said loudly, opening hie eyes wide and looking around. "You can not see them Legolas, you would never be able to tell what is a spy and what isn't. This very log I am sitting on may be sending reports back to whoever is spying on us as I speak." Legolas eyed the log suspiciously. A small rabbit bounded across the slope, making Legolas jump. Legolas followed the rabbit with his sharp eyes. "what is that?" Legolas said, concentrating on whatever he was seeing. "What is what," Gandalf asked, trying to find what Legolas was looking at. "That over there, I can't make it out.." "Well if you can't then I sure can't," Gandalf chuckled. "Wait, that looks like an-" Legolas traced a path from what he was looking at to one of the elves tying a knot in his rope. "Baranjolas! Watch out!" Legolas said, running toward the elf. Baranjolas looked up at Legolas, with a confused look. "Legolas, what are you do-" Baranjolas was interrupted as an arrow sunk deep into Baranjolas's chest. "No!" Legolas screamed, reaching the elf. "Everyone get behind the rocks!" Legolas screamed at the stupified elves surrounding Baranjolas. "NOW!" he yelled. The elves ran frantically, putting their hands on their swords and dodging more arrows. Legolas looked down at Baranjolas. He was still alive. "Hang on, Bar, please," he said softly. He slung Baranjolas over his shoulder and ran for the rocks. An arrow skimmed his leg and stuck into the ground. Once Legoals reached the others he gently put Baranjolas onto the ground. Baranjolas stared straight ahead, gulping and gasping for air. He quivered and grabbed Legolas's hand firmly. A tear dripped out of the corner of his rigth eye. "Why?" Baran choked. Legolas's heart sank as he felt Baranjolas's grip weakening. "No Bar, you are going to make it, just hang in there." "No.." Bar said, shaking his head. "Yes you are, you are going to live," Legolas tried to reassure him. Some of the elves watched sadly, while others peered over the rocks, watching arrows being shot straight towards them. The Ents sat silently in a circle, looking up at the sky. Gandalf leaned on a rock, his back facing Legolas. "Legolas," Baranjolas sobbed. "Yes?" "Give.. this.. to.. my mother.." he gasped, putting a gold chain in Legolas's hand. Legolas looked at the chain, then back up at Baranjolas. "Tell.. her.." Baranjolas started, his eyes beginning to roll. "Tell her what Baranjolas, please, stay with me," Legolas shouted. "Tell her.. that.. I love her.." Baranjolas said, breathing his last breath. Legolas looked at his expressionless eyes. He placed his hand over Baranjolas's eyes and gently shut them. "I will," Legolas said softly, ignoring the tear that rolled down his cheek. The elves stood silently, not knowing what to say. Legolas looked up at the mournful group. "Arm yourselves, notch your arrows, for in 5 minutes we charge." He put the chain in his pocket and stood up. He fuilled his quiver and armed himself with a sword. He looked up expressionless at the rest of the elves. "Nothing is going to stop us," he growled. He ran out into the open and charged towards the direction in which the arrows were coming. Soon he heard the rest of the elves following him, screaming in anger. "ORCS!" He shouted back to the rest of the elves. Legolas quickly scanned the pack. "12 or 13 of them!" Legolas anchored his bow, aimed at one of the Orcs. He released the string and the bow shot straight into the Orc's eye, and most definitely into its brain. The Orc flew back and landed dead. That was the beginning of the first battle between the Orcs and the elves. Their special sirum tipped arrows helped them overcome the power of the fountain, just as Gandlaf had said. Fighting bravely into the night, the elves overcame the small group of Orcs. Legolas became an esteemed leader, and the elves began to realize how serious their situation really was.
The rest of the two weeks passed by slowly. The elves and the Ents had to worry about arrows flying at them, and yet still exert their strength in trying to move the rocks. "Legolas," a weary, dirty-faced elf breathed, "I think this is it." He said smilinig, looking over at the almost defeated dam. "If we get that one rock in the center, we think the rest of it will fall. Legolas ran his fingers through his greasy un-washed hair and laughed happily. "Lets do it then," he smiled. Gandalf set a variaty of fireworks and explosives at the base of the rock and the elves latched their ropes onto it, too. "Here's the plan! Gandalf lights his exploosives and as soon as we hear them go off, well pull this rock as hard as we can this way!" Legolas shouted, pointing east. Each elf stationed themselves at a rope. "Ready?" Gandalf hollared. He held his staff close to the single fuse that tied all the explosives together. The fuse lit and Gandalf quickly got out of the way. "FUSE LIT!" they heard him call. Every elf and ent readied themselves for the loud explosives, gritting their teeth anxiously. " anytime now..," Legolas thought. Of course as soon as he said that he heard a loud BOOM and a light reflect off the trees and rocks around him. "PULL," he ordered, heaving the rope on his shoulder and pulling eastward. He heard the other elves grunting, and found the rock moviing quite quickly. He jerked forward and looked behind him. The rock was falling into many pieces. Soon after he heard a loud rumble as the surrounding rocks tumbled down the small dam. He remained on his stomach watching the dam meet its death. It was a magnificent sight none like he had ever seen before. "Legolas!" he heard Gandalf exlaim. Like a fox, Legolas swiftly jumped to his feet and chased after Gandalf. "Look! Look!" Legolas followed Gandalfs pointed finger once he reached the edge of the river. His jaw dropped as he saw two different streams, both a different color, mixing together. It was as though they were fighting eachother. A small light was emitted from the twin rivers, shining on Legolas's face. "This should be interesting," Gandalf muttered, looking up at a mountain a few miles out in the distance. "Once the stream of infinite sleep reaches that mountain, we shall see something truly spectacular, I believe," He said, grabbing ahold of his staff and seating himself on a small boulder. Legolas sat next to him, waiting. "How long is it going to ta-" Just then a bright light exploded out of the top of the mountain, striaght up into the sky. "WHOA!" Everyone said all in time. Their faces were white, along with everything else around them. The blinding light was beatiful. Legolas felt like he was in some sort of Haven. "Gandalf what is this?" he whispered. Gandalf shrugged and stared at the light. "You do not kno-" Legolas faded out as a deep sudden darkness cast over them. "What is going on?[/i]" Legolas thought, staring into the darkness. He could not see a thing. "Gandalf?" he whispered, feeling around with his hand. He jumped when he felt wirey hair and a slight quiver. It was Gandalf's beard shaking as he laughed. "I'm here, Legolas," he answered, still next to him. Legolas began to see things as the darkness slowly went away. He turned to the confused elven faces looking back at him. He stared up at the sky and was pleased to see the sun again. "It must have been some counteraction between the two streams!" Gandalf concluded out loud. "I guess we'll never know!" He got up and looked at the stream. "Perfect," he said leaning down to the now crystal clear water. He went to dip his hand in. "Gandalf!" Legolas interrupted, "are you sure it's safe?" "There's only one way to find out, isn't there Legolas," Gandalf grinned. Legolas swayed nervously as Gandalf continued to dip his hand in the stream. The elves were silent when his hand broke the surface. They all waited, trying not to breathe, for Gandalf to pass out of fall asleep. After a few minutes, and Gandalf not falling asleep, the elves let out a sigh of relief. "We did it," Legolas laughed, "We unarmed the Orcs of their most deadly weapon." He smiled at the rest of the elves. Their faces shone back at him. He looked up at the sky. The sun had a few more hours before it would dip behind the horizon. " Grace," he thought to himself. His smile broadened as he thought of seeing his lover again. "I don't know about you guys, but I really want to go home," he said. The other elves murmered in agreement, placing their hands on their hips. Legolas looked around at the faces, smeared with dirt, mud, rock, and blood. Their hair was ratty and stringy, their clothes were stained. "I suggest we bathe ourselves in this now-harmless stream. We must clear this area before the sun sets. We will ride into the woods and rest there for the night. As soon as dawn comes tomorrow we shall begin traveling back to Mirkwood. I think if we ride as fast as we can, we may be able to reach the gates my nightfall. Are there any disagreements?" He looked around the team. No one said anything, they all watched him. "Good," he said smiling, unbuttoning his tunic. He walked to the edge of the stream and looked back at the others. "See you in the water!" He dived in, letting the water overtake his body. It was the most refreshing feeling he had ever felt. He felt cleansed in the once-powerful stream. He looked down at his hands as he reached the surface. The blood and the dirt was disappearing. He dove under again, running his hands through his hair. He heard splashes underwater as the others joined in. The elves played in the water. It was the first time they had had fun since they came to the mountain. They washed themselves and splashed the others. They swam and floated about, enjoying themselves and the company of eachother. Legolas looked up at the sky sometime later. "Come on, lets clear out," he said, jumping out of the water. The sun was almost touching the horizon. He watched as each elf got out of the stream. They dressed themselves in their clean clothes and began to prepare for the trip. Legolas finished first. He sat by the stream, staring at the reflexion of the moon. His heart swelled as he thought of Grace again. " I'm almost home, Grace, I'm almost home," "Legolas," he heard a voice behind him, "We are ready to go now." Legolas smiled and turned back to the slightly rippling water. He joined the others and mounted his horse. "Lets go then," he said loudly to the others. He whispered his commands in his horses ear and he was off. The others followed as he lead the way into the woods. He looked behind him as the stream the had worked so hard to undam disappeared into the distance. He was proud of himself, but he knew in his heart that there were much greater troubles ahead. There was no way to avoid it. It was like a shadow casting over his mind. He tried to block out all of his thoughts and concentrate on the trail Leaves an branches flassehd by him as he raced throught he night. The soft wind blew his hair about his face. He was going home, and nothing was going to stop him.
"Grace! GRACE!" Grace sat up as she heard Lenora's calls in the distance. She got out of bed and quickly went to her door. "Whats going on?" she asked, as she opened her door to a flushed Lenora. "They.. have been.. spotted.. They.. are.. coming.. soon!" Lenora panted, putting her hand on her hip. Grace lost her breath. "Home?" she finally breathed. He put her hand to her chest, as Lenora nodded. She burst out of the door and began to sprint as hard as she could. "GRACE! WAIT!" she heard her friends voice falling further into the distance. "I CAN'T LENORA!! MY HEART WON'T LET ME," Grace called back. She tried to run faster as she approached the gates. " Please let him be home, please let him be home," she chanted over and over in her head. Her legs burned as she started up the last hill. Her heart sank as she started to see over the slope. There was no sign of Legolas or any other elf or horse. She slowed to a jog when she caim in full view of the gate. She felt a sharp pain in her heart as her disappointment consumed her. She began to cry in frustration. Her legs hurt and a cramp pinched at her side. She lifted her arms and placed her hands on her head and turned around. She gasped for air and tried to contain her tears. Lenora eventually made it over the hill, slowing down as she saw Grace alone, and no one else. "Oh Grace, dear, I'm so sorry," she panted. Grace shook her head and looked at the floor. Sitting down on the slope she stared longingly at the gates. Suddenly her ears caught a sound. She looked anxiously at Lenora, who had oviously heard the same thing, since she returned Grace's expression. She held her breath as the sound drew nearer. "horses," she breathed, looking at Lenora with hopeful eyes. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw a silver horse pull up to the gates. An elf shouted up to the guard to open the gate. Grace quickly jumped to her feet. Other horses eventually arrived at the gate. She watched apprehensively as the gate slowly opened. "Legolas," she whispered outloud. The silver horse strode past the gates, and Legolas dismounted his horse. He did not see Grace sitting on the hill, and he jumped when he heard her call his name. "LEGOLAS!" Grace screamed down to him. She began to run down the hill, almost losing her balance. Legolas's heart felt as though it was about to burst. He saw her smiling face shining at him in the moonlight. He opened his arms to her and almost fell backwards as she jumped into his arms. "You're home! At last!" Grace laughed in his ear. "I missed you so much," Legolas whispered in her hear. Grace looked into his eyes and stroked his face. "Oh, Legolas!" she cried, wrapping her arms around his neck and sinking into his body. Legolas peered over Grace to see Lenora smiling happily down on them. He buried his face into Grace's soft hair. He breathed her in, deprived from his lover's scent. Grabbing her hand he smiled at her. "Come on!" he said, beginning to run. Laughing and kissing eachother every three seconds, the pair reached their haven. Legolas picked Grace up and carried her into the house. Setting Grace down, he threw a few logs in the fireplace and started a fire within minutes. He looked up at Grace excitedly. Her sky blue eyes shone down on him, almsot illuminating the room more than the fire. He stood up to her and put his nose against hers. "I love you," he whispered, kissing her beautiful lips. Grace wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss, passionately. She slowly untied the strings on Legolas's tunic and looked into his eyes. Legolas took his cloak off and laid it on the wooden floor in front of the fireplace. He turned back to Grace, kissing her again. He slowly pulled off her night gown, kissing her neck and her shoulders. He worked his kisses down between her breasts and to her navel. He rubbed her thighs and looked up at her. Grace knelt down infront of him and stroked his cheekbones. She pulled his shirt over his head and threw it into the corner of the room. She laid down on his cloak and looked at Legolas seductively. Legolas ran his fingers all over her body, not missing one spot. He took off his leggings and gently laid himself on top of Grace. They kissed eachother, feeling and tasting with every taste bud. The flames from the fireplace flickered across their bodies as they expressed their love to one another. They were overwhelmed in pleasure, telling themselves they loved eachother every chance they could. They made love into the night, the warmth of the fire mixed with the heat of their burning passion. Enveloped in eachothers love, the two had never felt such happiness. It was pure bliss, for they loved eachother, and nothing would ever stop them from doing so. At least thats what they thought..
