At his 572nd birthday, Legolas decided to explore Mirkwood and understand it better. His desire of disappearing in nature and leaving the castle for a while was so strong, that his father let him go, not without regrets. "Why do you want to go, Legolas, my son?" "Father, said the blond-hair elf, I need to go away for a moment. These last days, I felt something calling me from in the forest. And I really want to discover everything about my beloved forest." "You did that at the age of 148, dont you remember" "Yes, I do, but this time, I want to go further, deeper in the forest. I want to learn the language of birds and trees, for if I rule in the future, I have to be able to protect them, and I will have to know why they are in danger! I want to search for all of the secrets that are hidden in the woods, I want to learn about plants, and their utilities!" Thranduil smiled: "You look a lot like your mother, dear son. She too had a need to be in the nature for a long time each day. Thats why I love her. She was close to every living being, gentle to every single plants." "You never talked about mother, father." "I dont think its the time to talk. When will you leave?" "I have packed already, I will be leaving tomorrow morning, at dawn." "And who will you be traveling with?" "No one, unless you force me to, he said, a twinkle in his eyes." "If you need no one, go alone, I will force you of nothing, for it is your decision." "Thank you, father, for understanding me so. I shall now return to my room" He walked smoothly up the stairs, and light surrounded him as he pushed the heavy oak-made door. All lights were extinguished, as he preferred the natural shine of the majestic sun and the pale glowing of the moon. He sat on his bed, heads in his hands, with the moon shining on his pale face. A part of him urged him to go, but the other one could not bear to part with his friends. The idea of staying a so long time in the forest alone frightened him, but on the other way, he felt excited. He decided to sleep first, without noticing the shadow that has just leaved his balcony. A few minutes later, His breath only could be heard, and his bed fell into shadows, as the moon hid her behind clouds. In the living room, Thranduil didnt know what to do. He still had some work to do, but the depart of his son worried him. Then his face shone. He headed for an old cupboard, took his pendant, where a small silver key hang, and opened the big drawer situated at the bottom of the furniture. He then took a small yellow envelope out. He went back to his seat and held the old envelope. At last, after staring at it with his old dark eyes, he decided to open it. A letter inside was written in blue letters, in a nice and neat writing. After having read the crumpled piece of paper over and over again, he reached for something else in the envelope.
