On the shores by MedivalArcher10

this is a story by MedivalArcher10 aka Elreinal

Eren sat on the shores of River Running, in the lands of Mirkwood. Her grey horse, Anduinion, was tied to a tree and paced restlessly. Eren lifted her head to smell the fresh forest air, and the scents of lilac and evergreen.
She lowered her head to see the rushing water, in clear wisps of blue.

The serenity of the forest scene was comforting, but not enough to cover the pain that she had felt before.

She thought of her father, running away, leaving her alone, an orphan.

A tear rolled down her pale cheek and onto the cool, wet rock she was sitting on. More tears flowed down her neck and face. The thought of her being an orphan bit at her heart.

Eren heard a russle in the trees across the bank and looked over just intime to catch a pale face, staring.
Eren stood up quickly and gracefully and stared across the wide river. The handsome pale face stepped out, and he was clad in green.

Eren backed away from the river, hoping to make a run for it on her horse. She backed away to the tree he was tied on, still facing the staring stranger. She untied her horse and jumped on, quickly. She kicked Andruinion, and yelled
"away, fast!" and was off at the speed of wind.

She raced southwards towards the sunset and prepared to make camp for the night, worrying about the pale stranger. Her mind wandered around from thoughts of danger to thoughts of love.

love? why am i thinking about love? Eren asked herself in a whisper. I have too much on my mind to be thinking about love. And worst of all, love with a stranger?
That dark, moonless night Eren slept restlessly, tossing in turning in her sleep. She comtinued to have nightmares about her father, whom was very dear to her.

In one dream her father was being beaten by a dragon, and then the pale face she had seen earlier arrived and shot the dragon with a golden arrow. It was a beautiful dream, but when Eren woke up the dream troubled her, and she decided to go back to the river, to prove to herself the face was just her mind stirring.

The river rushed in clear ripples as it had they day before.

It was only a dream, my mind was only playing trics on me. Eren thought.

Eren sat down on the same rock, and stared down at the water. After a while, she fell asleep, unknowingly.

When she awoke gracefully, and sat up on the rock. The dream she had was about her father, and it troubled her, and she began crying, silently, and her tears dripped into the water.

She had camped at the same riverside setting that evening. Eren had let her horse go swimming in the clear waters of the river. When Anduinion dryed off, Eren tied him up and Anduinion went to sleep.

Eren was sitting by the riverside, crying, when she heard a soft voice behind her.

"Why do you cry?"

Eren turned around and drew her sword, preparing to fight.

"Please M'lady, I mean no harm" the soft voice said, kindly.

Eren spoke in a shaky voice:

"Who may you be and why are you watching me?"

"I am Legolas Greenleaf, I never meant to alarm you" the kind voice said. " I mean no harm. I dwell here, in Mirkwood." He said.

The small fire that Eren had sparked was shadowing a light in Legolas' eyes that sparkled, and Eren put her sword away, and sat down by the river.

Legolas follwed her, and sat down beside her, putting his feet in the waters of River Running.
"Now, who might you be?" Legolas said.

"I'm Erem Starwater" Eren murmured.

"An elvish name?"

"My father-he ran off after my mother died, about a fortnight ago" Eren began crying, silently. She turned her head toward the shimmering water.

"I'm so sorry" Legolas said, wiping a tear off her cheek.

Eren turned her face towards him, and tried to smile, but the sadness inside her made a smile unbearable, and all she could muster forth was a brief nod.

" I must be getting to sleep, 'tis late, and dark" Eren said.

"I shall come back in the dawn, when the sun shines anew"
Legolas smiled at Eren, then left.
Eren awoke the next morning to find that Legolas was there with a picnic basket, all laid out on the shores of the River, with a large breakfast.

" I thought you hadn't eaten for a while, so I brought the morning meal, do you wish to join me?" Legolas said, grinning.

" Wow, thank you, I would very much like to join you" Eren said, amazed with Legolas' thoughtfulness.

They both sat on the river bank, eating and laughing like old friends, Eren had never felt so comfortable with anyone before.

After breakfast, Eren stood up, and streched her arms wide, then dove into the river, with all her clothes on. She arose from the water laughing, and ran her hand over her long, dark hair. Legolas jumped in after her, laughing and smiling. Eren swan over to him, and stood up, her lips only a few inches from his, they both grew silent.

Eren heard him breathing, deeply, and smiled. "I guess we should get out" Eren whispered.

"I guess so" Legolas said, with a sexy half-smile covering his face.

They both hauled out of the water, silently, and wrapped themselves in Eren's soft, weathered cloak.
Eren woke the next morning to a gentle shake by Legolas.

"Come, I brought a boat, do you wish to join me?" Legolas said motioning the clear river.

"I'm sorry Legolas, I must leave. I have buisness to take care of in Rivendell." Eren whispered.

" When shall you be back?" Legolas awnsered, softy, stepping closer to Eren.

"It may take a day, It may take a year, I do not know, but i shall return."

"Could i join you? I have not seen Rivendell in a long time, i wish to lay my eyes on the valley again." Legolas whispered in her ear.

"No, I am sorry, but this is somthing i have to take care of on my own" Eren murmured, looking into the crystal blue depths of her friend.

"I shall miss you"

"Me too, and i'll look for you upon my return." Eren whispered.

Eren filled up her canteen in the water, and turned back to Legolas,

"I will be back, my friend, i will return."

"And i will wait"Legolas said. With tears begining to fill his eyes.

" Farewell Legolas Greenleaf" Eren said. She kissed his cheek, and mounted up on her horse, she then left, but before she was out of sight, she blew him a kiss, and waved.

Eren was gone for two years. Legolas missed her dearly. He had kept her cloak, and he often wore it, remembering the friend he had made. He thought of her almost every day, until she lived only in his dreams. One amazing day, he got a letter.

Dear Legolas,

I miss you very much, and can't wait until I return. Rivendell has been grand, my business is over, but I have been invited to stay at Elrond's guest house for a few days, to attend the Council meeting. I told Elrond I had met you and he seemed to know you, he said he was very fond of you actually! That was quite a suprise. I miss you very much and cannot wait to see you again.

Love, Eren

Two months later, after Legolas got his letter
* * * * * *

Legolas sat by the river, as he had since he got the letter. He was thinking about how great it would be to see his friend once again.

Distence makes the heart grow fonder. Legolas grew to love the amazing girl he had known only for a few days.

He looked into the water, trying to picture her, her soft angular face, her deep green eyes, her delecate lips... He thought of what it might be like to kiss her, he wanted it to happen so bad, it ached.

He looked back into the water and began crying, like she once did. Tears of love, tears of grief.

I can't sleep, i miss her too much. He wondered what could have happened to him.

He continued staring into the clear, shimmering waters, until he heard a familiar voice....

"Legolas!"
Legolas turned around to the face he had dreamed about every night, the face that brought him comfort, the face he loved.

Eren stood before him. She was taller, her hair was longer, but her eyes were the same. She smiled shyly and said:

"So we meet again, Legolas"

Legolas' heart pounded with joy as he raced to Eren and embraced her, smelling her hair, Looking into the deep green eyes he loved.

"I have missed you so much, it is beyond words" Legolas whispered.

"I too have missed you, How are you good friend?" Eren spoke.

"Amazing, since you came back. You have lit up my day like a ray of sun" Legolas smiled and hugged her again.

Eren looked into Legolas' eyes and kissed his cheek,
"I'm glad to be back, so glad", she smiled and kissed his lips.
Legolas blushed five shades pink. He smiled a little "I've wanted you to do that for the whole while you were gone."

Eren bit her lip and met Legolas' gaze, his eyes sparkled, and she wanted to stay with him. Forever. She was smart enough to know that Legolas' father might not like them, her being only half-elf.

But right then, she didn't care, she just wanted to stay with Legolas, kissing him in the moonlight.
Eren had more buisness to take care of. In Lothlorien. It depressed her, that she had to go, that she had to leave Mirkwood. And Legolas. Newly found love that was to be torn thread by thread. Eren promised to write Legolas and he promised to write her. Things did not turn out as expected.
Eren had been away from Mirkwood for only a few months. Legolas recieved a letter that made him oh so happy, but worried.

Dear Legolas,

Hello my friend. I have missed you very much over the last three months. Lorien is beautiful. I wish you were here to enjoy it with me. It seems as I have more buisness to attend to than I had planned. Lady Galadriel wishes me to stay for a few years. I have been given a house to stay in and Anduinion is being well taken care of. But alas, my heart cries to see you once again, to hold you.

On my way to Lorein i was attcked by wolves. Haldir (Who seemed to know you as well!) found me on the banks of Anduin and aided to my recovery, I do not wish to worry you at all.

On to buisness, since I will be staying in Lorien for a few years i will for you to come and join me. Lady Galadriel wished to see you again as well. Please come and join me, for I am lonely and my heart cries for you in my dreams.

I'll love you forever, Eren
Dear sweet Eren,

I miss you more than can be described in words. I will come down to Lorien to see you. Unfortunatly my father willn't allow it, so I am coming without leave.

Your encounter with wolves has worried me! Are you Ok? I shall thank Haldir for aiding you.

I shall arrive in Lorein in a month, and cannot wait.

Love,
Legolas

Eren was having more problems dealing with her life. When Legolas wasn't around, she felt, empty, and useless. He was her sunlight, her support, her friend. Without him, she couldn't deal with....life.

Sadness and pain would tug at her heartstrings, making life....hurt. She was sleeping a whole lot more, and everyone could tell she was changing. Lady Galadriel was even worried.

Eren was isolating herself from everyone. She was creating a mental wall between her and everyone else, everyone, except Legolas. She was becoming more depressed every day while she sat, awaiting Legolas' arrival.

Sh even began thinking about what it would be like, if she wasn't there. Wasn't alive.

Eren needed help. Even she knew it. Everyone noticed a change in her personality. Everyone, even if they had only spoken with her once before. She no longer sang songs in the moonlight. She no longer spoke to her horse, or stroked his silky fur. She no longer smiled, even if she seldom smiled before.

Eren craved to see the happy valley again. So that cold, moonless night, she rode of for Rivendell. Not letting anyone know where she was going, or when she was leaving. She needed Elrond's help.

"AH! Finally, the borders of the grand Lorien!" Legolas shouted, happily.

Haldir, who was gaurding the borders that day, heard him, and mover swiftly towards his voice.

"Legolas! What buisness brings you here?" Haldir said.

"I have come to visit Eren! And to see all my old friends"

"Eren?" Haldir said questioningly. "I think you should see The Lady" Haldir said mysteriously.

* * * * *

"She has left Legolas" Lady Galadriel whispered.

"But why? Why would she have me come then leave before i can see her?"

"You love her, but she is a wanderer, and a very wise one. She isn't used to staying in one place for too long. It was stupid of me to becon her. But there was a reason she left, i'm sure, And i suggest you ask her her reasons of going, before you get angry." Lady Galadriel spoke wisely.

But Legolas didn't listen.

An unebbing fury arose in Legolas' eyes. The fury that had glown in the fires of Mordor. The fury that raged in a murderer. He had lost control over himself. The rage had eaten his heart in only a few seconds.

He (against the advise of Lady Galadriel) set out to look for her. In the only place she would go when all else burned: Rivendell.

He stormed out of Lothlorien, on a stolen horse, and set out as fast as he could bear it, for Rivendell.

By nightfall (OK so this would never happen) he had reached the old forest road. He set up to camp, and slept restlessly until morning.

In the morning, rage still shook his beautiful blue eyes. He rode swiftly onwards to Rivendell.

Approaching him, was a female on a grey horse named Anduinion that seemed unusually familiar.

ok you can choose from one ending or the other... here goes...

Ending One:

Legolas dismounted, raging with anger. He stopped in the center of the road, no one could pass.

Eren rode swiftly up to him, almost flew off her horse, and hugged him, with all the love in her small body.
"I'm so sorry" and she began crying, not tears of joy, but tears of love. "I love you "

legolas, stricken with happiness and relif, hugged her back, "Forever shall we live, on the shore of River Running" and kissed under the sunset with sparkling stars gleaming above.

Ending Two:

Legolas dis mounted, almost bursting with rage. He jumped in the middle f the Old Forest road and began walking forwards.

Eren stopped a few feet infront of him. She dis mounted and stood up.

"Why did you leave me?" Legolas shouted, "I loved you, I trusted you, and you left me? Worring! You aren't the person I thought you to be and don't deserve my time" Legolas spoke with anger, and hatred.

"Legolas but..." Erem said backing away from the oncoming figure.

"No Eren, I let you leave before, and let you return, but this time, you won't return, not If I can do anything about it!" Legolas' rage had overcome him, and he wasn't himself.

"You are not yourself, Legolas!" Eren shouted in her last minutes of life.

Legolas pulled out his long, Elven knife, and stabbed her pure heart. "Yes, I am myself, and you are not worthy" She dropped to the ground, heaving for air.

"Dear," she paused and took in a deep breath "sweet, Legolas". Her deep green eyes stared into his, as a piercing gaze that would forever haunt him. Her beautiful eyes, fluttered, them closed, in a sad, solumn, silence.

"What have I done?"
